What True Love Is #2

What is Love?

When we hear the word “love”, we automatically think of the kind of passionate love existing between a couple. However, this cannot be true because friend can say to friend, “I love you bro”, father can say to son, “I love you my child”, brother can say to sister, “I love you until the end”. Love is multidimensional and it never fails, and a world without love is a world without hope. Sometimes we live from day to day without experiencing what true love is. Have we become so blinded that we as humans, the only creatures on this earth capable of expressing true love, have lost our only hope? We need to rediscover the meaning of love in a world tainted and permeated by everything but love. The answer to the common question, “why is there so much suffering?”, is a lack of true love.

“Love is patient”

We cannot love someone if we are impulsive. True love endures and does not live within the realms human impulse. If we truly love someone, we will wait for them. No matter how big or small the circumstance, love endures time.

“Love is kind”

It is very difficult for one to receive someone’s love if he is shouting at you. A gentle tone and a friendly smile are the difference between broken relationships and lasting friendships.

“Love does not envy”

Each person is born and blessed with his own reasons to be happy, confident, and satisfied. We often take for granted what we have and look to others, instead of looking at ourselves and how lucky we are. If we want something of another person, how can we ever show our compassion for them?

“Love does not boast, it is not proud”

True love comes from humility. People will not endure somehow who is prideful and arrogant. How can we help each other if we are always showing off how good we are? It’ll be like a competition, where no one will trust another. If someone is angry and all you say is how good you are, he will mostly likely beat you up. If a friend is depressed and you are bragging to him about how great your life is, he will sink further into depression.

“Love is not rude”

No one likes rude people. Who can become friends with a guy who bumps you on the shoulder as you walk by?

”Love is not self-seeking”

Both guys and girls get into relationships for themselves. Dating has morphed into hooking up. We want “experience”, sex, someone to talk to, a good reputation, someone to lean on, to have fun, and because others say we should. There is something wrong when a one-year relationship is said to be “long-lasting”.

“Love is not easily angered”

Try hitting a one year old infant who broke your computer. Now try shouting at a friend who did the same. Both are humans, so why can’t we treat them equally. True love endures above all circumstances.

“Love keeps no record of wrongs”

Make a list of people who you want to kill. Then make a list of people who you want to punch in the face. Now make a list of people who you would ignore if they passed by. After that, make a list of people who you can never forgive. Only love can maintain a blank slate.

“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth”

What is the meaning of life? Love is a part of its foundation.

“Love always protects”

Have you ever given an umbrella to someone to protect him from the rain? Love can bring shelter even through hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and tsunamis. Providing that shelter will bring to another true safety and assurance.

“Love always trusts”

No relationship can grow without trust. Doubt separates. Why distrust those who have never done harm to you or others?

“Love always hopes”

We feel empty when we are distanced from true love. The first drop of rain quenches a barren desert, and then a flood follows. The desert knows that it can never be dry forever.

“Love always perseveres”

Love is powerful and love endures. Love is victory and it conquers all.

Love never fails. Love can heal, maintain, and grow in any circumstance. When there is nothing but love, there can be no fear, no pain, and no doubt. Love is exclusive to all that destroys. We rarely experience the power of true love. It is only natural for us to be blind to its power. If we feel any sense of doubt, fear, anger, distrust, unforgiveness, pride, envy, impatience, and depression, we are blind to love, because it cancels anything negative.

Seek Love and seek God.

He is Love.

1 Corinthians 13.
